LASIK
A laser reshapes the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye) to correct short-sight, long-sight and astigmatism. It suits people with healthy, sufficiently thick corneas and a stable glasses number.

Your options
The right choice depends on your glasses number, the thickness and shape of your cornea, your lifestyle and your eye health. That is decided after examination — not before.
A laser reshapes the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye) to correct short-sight, long-sight and astigmatism. It suits people with healthy, sufficiently thick corneas and a stable glasses number.
A thin lens is placed inside the eye, without removing corneal tissue. It is often considered for higher glasses numbers, thinner corneas, or when LASIK is not the best fit.
Like LASIK, but the correction is done on the corneal surface without creating a flap. It can suit thinner corneas or very active lifestyles, with a slightly longer recovery.

What to expect
Stop wearing contact lenses for the period we advise (soft and hard lenses need different gaps) and bring your glasses and latest prescription.
Corneal mapping and thickness, eye pressure, a dilated examination of the retina, and a check for dry eye. Allow a few hours; dilating drops blur near vision for a while.
Dr. Gupta explains which procedure, if any, suits you, what results to realistically expect, and the risks — and answers your questions before you decide.
Your procedure is planned, and you are given clear aftercare instructions and follow-up visits. We confirm where and when your procedure will be done.

Most surgeons prefer patients to be at least 18 and to have had a stable glasses number for a year or more. There is no fixed upper age, but from your 40s onward lens changes (and cataract later) matter, so other options may suit you better. Your examination will tell.
The laser treatment itself usually takes only a few minutes per eye, but plan on a few hours for the visit, including preparation and a short rest afterwards.
Numbing eye drops are used, so most people feel pressure or touch, not pain. Mild irritation, watering or light sensitivity for a day or so afterwards is common.
Many people notice clearer vision within a day or two after LASIK, and it keeps settling over the following weeks. Recovery after PRK or ICL differs; Dr. Gupta will tell you what to expect for your procedure.
Surgery corrects the power you have now, but your eyes can still change with age. For example, most people need reading glasses in their 40s. Some people also need a small touch-up.
No. Thin or irregular corneas, keratoconus, unstable prescriptions, some eye and general health conditions can make LASIK unsuitable. ICL or PRK may then be options, and sometimes the best advice is to continue with glasses.
You can start with an evaluation at either location. We will confirm where and when your procedure will be carried out once you have been examined and have decided to go ahead.
LASIK and ICL are usually treated as elective, so most policies do not cover them. Some do; please check with your insurer.
A single evaluation tells you whether LASIK, ICL or another option suits your eyes, and what results are realistic.
